Bilge Bilge

People generally exist in their mundane states with only a fraction of themselves. This is an appearance, a shell. Some, however, crack this shell, discovering the potential within. This often leads to self-reflection and awareness, transforming them. Then, they begin to create a space that offers a collective expression of these latent experiences, allowing others to meet within it.

My practice presents the visual manifestations of working with what emerges from this cracked space. I engage in a dialogue around a multi-layered existence, involving my own dimensions and the shared spaces of the psyche that these dimensions open up. Where linguistic and linear expression falls short, I turn to the unique language of automatic image-making. I construct this language as part of the process of ‘cracking the shell’. Here, the rules begin to shift; what comes first may follow, feeling can take precedence over thought, and the unknown may emerge through the known. While each stage of the painting develops through its own internal logic, I move within and respond to these evolving conditions.

The interconnected forms I use, with their indistinguishable beginnings and endings, reflect a sense of continuity. Within this continuity, effects and causes appear intertwined, forming an inseparable chain. Depictions suggesting frequency-like effects point toward a state where elements relate to one another within an expansive network, gradually merging. The bending and twisting figures and backgrounds suggest a certain flexibility, extending even to our perception of physical structures. Through these elements, I aim to connect with the viewer not only through thought, but also through sensation—offering an experience that leans toward clarity while remaining open-ended.

I am interested in engaging with the less visible layers of human experience from a perspective that is both personal and familiar. Personal, as it traces the paths I move through within the psyche—its peaks, valleys, limitations, freedoms, moments of unease and of transformation. Familiar, in that these paths resonate with broader processes of creation. In this way, I share a form of creative narration that participates in its own unfolding, at times observing, at times playing, and at times becoming its own subject.
